Singapore has the best street food in all 50 cities around the world. This is according to CEOWORLD magazine.
The Lion City beat cities such as Bangkok, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh, and others to claw its way to the top. Kuala Lumpur, in case you’re curious, is nowhere in the list.
Yeah, you can lift your jaw off the table now.
Turns out the list was ranked based on votes from travellers who’re also food lovers. According to the business magazine, 92,000 business travellers and 1,400 corporate travel agent from over 86 countries were engaged by CEOWORLD magazine to rank the cities.
The cities were ranked in four categories: Number of street food vendors, affordability, experience, and hygiene.
The entire survey was done between July 18 to September 19, 2019.
To create the survey, street food data from Google Maps was analyzed with details from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) was utilized to rank the cities based on hygiene.
The subject of which country has the best food has been a heated talking point between both Malaysians and Singaporeans with both sides claiming their food are the best.
In 2018, Malaysians were aghast when Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had announced the country’s was in the process of nominating its hawker culture to Unesco’s list of intangible cultural heritage.
Earlier in 2019, CNN had named Singapore’s cendol as the best in the world, pissing off many Malaysians. Unfortunately, when it comes to who created the cendol, well, it’s Indonesia.
